ISO 45001 is currently in the Draft International Standard (DIS) stage and will replace OHSAS 18001. Organizations will have a 3 years transition period from the publication date to transition to the new editions and transition can be done at any point in this period. Our recommendation is to start preparing for the transition as early as possible.
Recommended steps
- Get to know the content and requirements of the new standards. The standards, including the draft version of ISO 45001, are available for purchase from ISO and possibly from your national standards provider. If you are a current user of the standards you should focus on the changes in requirements. See how we can support in building this knowledge.
- Ensure that relevant personnel in your organization are trained and understand the requirements and key changes.
- Identify gaps which need to be addressed to meet the new requirements and establish an implementation plan.
- Implement actions and update your management system to meet the new requirements.
